A 2-yr-old child has died after being hit by a vehicle in Hamilton.
The child was in a car with a woman and her 3-year old daughter in the city’s south end at around 11:45 a.m.
“It’s extremely traumatic and I’ve had to deal with the emotional trauma of this,” said Coun.
“My heart goes out to the family and their loved ones and the entire city.”
Cressill said the family was not wearing seat belts at the time.
Police have not yet released a description of the vehicle involved in the crash.
The driver, a 52-yearold woman, was taken to hospital in serious condition.
The 3-yr old was unharmed and is recovering at home.
“I’m just horrified,” said Cressys son, Jonathan.
“She was sitting there, a little child, and the vehicle just hit her, so that’s tragic.”
Hamilton Mayor Andrew Wilkinson said the incident is “devastating” and calls for a thorough investigation.
He said he will meet with the family on Monday to discuss the investigation.
The intersection of St. Clair Avenue and Spadina Avenue was closed off for about three hours while police investigated.
Hamilton police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to call Crime Stoppers.
